Thank you
Parent Council
Moira,
For a good number of years many providers of adventurous activities have, by law, been required to hold a license.
The UK Government has decided to abolish the licensing of adventurous activity providers. For parents, this move might indeed be unwelcome, the removal of a system that was robust and provided the public with a level of assurance will no longer exist. The Scottish Government wishes to develop a safety system for the provision of Adventure Activities in Scotland to replace the licensing scheme that is being abolished. Part of the process in deciding the most appropriate safety system, is to consult with the nation. Many parents in Highland engage the services of adventurous activity providers so their children can experience a great number of adventurous activities e.g. skiing, climbing, canoeing, sailing, orienteering, ropes courses, caving, surfing, gorge scrambling, canyoning etc.
In addition within Highland, 1 in 10 school trips involve an element of adventurous activities.
It is therefore crucial, that as many parents as possible, take the opportunity to respond to the consultation as possible so the Scottish Government can truly develop a safety system that meets the needs of parents. For this to become a reality, parents need to be informed about the consultation.
