1/1 - Introduction
· Ms Gordon explained the aim and function of the pupil council
1/2 - Structure of the School Day
· Most members of the meeting seemed happy with the 7 period days as they had become used to them. However it was pointed out that it was sometimes difficult to get everything done in a class due to the shorter period times of 50 minutes. It was also brought up that lunch time was not soon enough and pupils were very hungry by 1.15.
· Representatives were generally happy with the 2-3-2 structure. Although the idea of a 3-2-2 structure appealed as it meant getting the triple block of classes over with early on in the day. It was pointed out that a 2-2-3 structure meant that lunch would be earlier.
Action Point
- Representatives ask their classes for opinions on the different period structures.
1/3 - School Uniform
· Agreed that the uniform policy was not strict enough at the moment. It should either be made stricter or not used at all.
· The idea of a hierarchy in uniform to distinguish the different year groups was popular. If senior pupils wore blazers the younger year groups would aspire to also be smartly dressed. Blazers would also identify the senior pupils. Black was the cheapest and most popular option for blazers and can be embroidered
· Ideas for new colours for the uniform in addition to black and white – grey, navy.
· It was suggested that footwear should be smart. Rather than banning trainers allow only black ones.
· If pupils were being asked to improve their uniform then some teachers could also dress more formally for school. Male teachers could wear the school tie.
· It was agreed that tracksuits, leggings, and jeggings were unacceptable items of clothing.
· Black jeans are allowed but not faded
Action Points
- Ms Gordon to raise pupil concerns of staff dress at SMT meeting
- Representatives gain feedback about:
Ø the wearing shorts to school, is it acceptable?
Ø other clothing which would be unacceptable
Ø using the Stirling high school uniform model – S1/2, S3/4 and S5/6 uniform options
1/4 - School Diaries/Planners
· School diaries should be made much smaller and simpler, especially for seniors - this would be cheaper for the school.
· Mobile phones could be used to record homework; this allows pupils to be responsible for doing their homework and have no excuse if they don’t.
· The idea that teachers could set up websites and email addresses to communicate homework was put forward.
Action Point
· Ms Gordon to get a sample of an A6 sized diary for the pupil council to look at
· Ms Gordon to raise the proposal of using mobile phones to record homework at SMT meeting
1/5 - The Senior Social Area
· The senior social are doesn’t have enough seats.
· 4th years should be told that they are not allowed in it.
1/6 - The Back of the School
· The back of the school (stairs and around P.E.) is very crowded during break and lunch times.
Action Points
- Rachel and Michael remind prefects of their duties.
- Ms Gordon to speak to Mrs Cormack about prefect duties.
