Dear parent / carer,
Another busy session is coming to an end, and school will finish for the summer break on Friday 2nd July at 12.25pm. Transportation is being arranged for 12.30pm.
As you will know by now, the structure of the school day and week is changing from Tuesday 17 August when pupils return to the school. From Monday to Thursday, the following period times will apply –
Period 1 8.50 – 9.40
Period 2 9.40 – 10.30
Interval 10.30 – 10.45
Period 3 10.45 – 11.35
Period 4 11.35 – 12.25
Period 5 12.25 – 1.15
Lunch 1.15 – 2.00
Period 6 2.00 – 2.50
Period 7 2.50 – 3.40
On Fridays, there will only be five periods and the structure of the school day will be as follows –
Period 1 8.50 – 9.40
Period 2 9.40 – 10.30
Interval 10.30 – 10.45
Period 3 10.45 – 11.35
Period 4 11.35 – 12.25
Lunch 12.25 – 1.10
Period 5 1.10 – 2.00 which will be the end of the school day.
I would like to stress at this point that whilst Curriculum for Excellence is to be fully implemented for S1, the vast majority of the curriculum for the rest of the school will stay as it is at present, and they will be continuing to work towards exactly the same examination structure as is in place at the moment. One of the changes that will come into place when the new curriculum starts is there will no longer be a registration at the start of every morning. Pupils are still required to bring notes explaining absence however, and these notes will now be placed in receptacles near the front of the school beside the office. Parents and carers are asked to ensure that when returning notes to the school, the name of the pupil and their class is printed clearly either on the envelope or on the letter itself. It is sometimes the case that when parents sign the letters signatures are not always easily identifiable, and it is possible that it may not be the same name as the pupil concerned, so I would ask you to please make sure that the name of the pupil and class are clear on any correspondence.
On the last day of this session, Friday 2nd July pupils will be dismissed at 12.25pm and buses will be arranged for 12.30pm. School will then begin again on Tuesday 17 August at 8.50am. Any alterations to bus timetables will be notified to pupils before the end of the session.
The parent council have been very active this session and they have asked me to pass the following information to you.
As most parents realise, the Highland Council has proposed consultation on cuts over the next few years which will affect many services the Council provides. Dingwall Academy parent council has written to the Council expressing our views on some of the cuts which will impact on Dingwall Academy. A copy of this letter will be placed on the Dingwall Academy website. There are many other proposed cuts and parents will have different views on which they feel most strongly about. The budget consultation documents are available in the Library or on the web, where you can also feedback via a blog. All parents and carers are invited to respond to these proposals and to make sure your views are represented.
We have also supported the education of two children in Malawi, Africa by purchasing 90 kilo bags of rice which we sold on to parents and teachers at £2.50 per kilo. This is an example of fair trade for the farmer gets a fair price for his produce and can therefore afford to educate his children in a country where schooling is not free. A few bags of rice are still for sale from the school office. Many thanks to all who helped the Parent Council to achieve this.
Finally, can I once again thank all parents, carers and friends of the school for their support and encouragement during this session. The pupils have worked hard and now deserve their summer break. I’d like to take this opportunity to wish all parents, pupils and staff a very relaxing holiday, hopefully with good weather in attendance.
Yours sincerely
Graham A MacKenzie
