Dingwall Youth Sub Aqua Club - Divers swim for the Boat! |

Murray (D.O.),

A
team of seven members of Dingwall Youth Sub Aqua club
completed a sponsored swim from Stromeferry to North
Strome on Sunday 22nd April.
The crossing was made by 2 groups of swimmers. Each
group took approximately 20 minutes to complete the
journey. The pupils, all from Dingwall Academy, found
the swim was challenging owing to cold water, tidal
currents and deteriorating weather conditions.
The swim formed the culmination of a family day out
with shore and water based activities taking place
including snorkelling, riding an inflatable, lucky
dip stall and other fund raising activities including
refreshments. A group of fellow club members along
with leaders and parents watched the swim taking place. |

“The
members are working hard to raise funds for the purchase
of a rescue
boat and this swim is only one of the methods we are
using to help complete the funding required. A recent
award from the Lottery fund along with awards from
HIE, Highland Council and others are helping us to
complete the required
funding. The members are greatly encouraged by the
support shown by family and friends who have helped
make today such a great success. We would like to
thank those who are helping the club’s efforts
through sponsorship and other means.”

Dingwall Youth Sub Aqua Club |
| DYSAC
received a grant of £10,000 towards the purchase of a rescue/
dive boat from The Big Lottery Fund – Awards for All.
This
club is a Youth branch of the British Sub Aqua Club and has Dingwall
Academy as its parent body. The Club has been in operation since
July 2000 and has trained many students from Dingwall Academy and
other schools in the area. |

Williamson. Front Danni Gear receives the award on behalf of the
club from Hugh Fraser
|
Currently
there are 25 members in the club and we have been
working for some time to acquire the funding to provide
this piece of equipment.
The
grant from Awards for All will make a massive boost
to the efforts of the club to raise the funding for
this project and it is hoped to complete the fund
raising in the near future. Currently there is a shortfall
in funding of £3,000 and the club is working
hard to close this gap. Included in our efforts is
a sponsored swim from Stromeferry to North Strome.
This swim of approximately 1Km is to be complete by
a team of 6 divers on 22nd April 2007. Sponsors who
would be willing to support the club are invited to
contact a club member for details of how they can
assist.
The
boat will be used to provide safety cover for divers
should they require assistance and will also make

it
possible to access alternative dive sites such that
the students can develop their diving skills and experience.
The
club currently dives from shore in areas such as Loch
Carron, Achilitibuie, Loch Duich and Auchmelvich.
The purchase of a boat will allow rescue cover to
be supplied at the current locations and also make
it possible to access a much wider ranges of sites
such as the wreck of the Port Napier at Kyle of Lochalsh,
Summer Isles, Loch Hourne, the Valentine tank at Burghead
bay, Caple Rock at Cullen and many other locations
that are not suitable for shore based diving. We also
encourage the students to take an active interest
in the marine environment by getting involved with
Sea search activities to record the marine life and
environment.
Club
members will also be able to learn skills in seamanship
and boat handling in addition the dive skills they
already acquire through membership of the club. |
